DIY WEDDING

The day my boyfriend got down on one knee I knew things were about to get real. I have never been the fancy, flashy type so when decisions had to be made about what kind of wedding we wanted and where. I knew I wanted something small and the perfect location would be my parent’s backyard in Colorado. The backyard was blank canvas I could not wait to transform.

First things first… How the heck do you plan a wedding? I had no idea where to start, luckily my new sister-in-law came to the rescue. She gave me the best gift, and if you have a new bride-to-be in your life I recommend this little gem, “the knot”. The Knot Book of Wedding Lists: The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Day, Down to the Smallest Detail is a great step by step guide that doesn’t make planning a wedding overwhelming. After I cleared the venue with the folks, it was time to pick a color scheme. Since I spend way too much time at Home Depot I thought using paint chips would be a great way to find the perfect colors.

Time for the bridesmaids’ dresses. I’m sure you know how it feels to be in a wedding, and you love the bride so much you are willing to spend your hard-earned money on, and wear whatever “beautiful” dress they want you to. Odds are that dress is still in your closet and hasn’t see the light of day since the big day.
I wanted my bridesmaids, who all happen to be my sisters, to find a dress they loved and will wear again and also find something they are comfortable and confident in. So, when I asked them to be a part of the wedding I attached these cut outs along with paint chips on a bottle of wine. (Sorry I don’t have a picture of the package put together)

They nailed it

Of course, a wedding is a family affair and since all my sisters were bridesmaids. Well, who better to perform the ceremony then my little brother?

Here comes the fun part. I had the idea of antique doors at the end of the aisle. I have to give props to ole pops on this one, he found the doors but it was a team effort to figure out how to stand them up in the yard. The florist killed it making the look complete. Next to the doors were of course two barrels with beer and waters so guest could grab a drink and take a seat.

Now for my favorite little men… All 3 adorable ring bearers carried signs that fit their personalities and make everyone laugh of course.

Can’t forget about yard games for cocktail hour… I wanted to come up with a clever way to integrate our last name.

I know photobooths are becoming over played, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted one, but Dad was able to find this awesome door to act as a frame for everyone to take pictures in, and everyone had fun posing.

I did some serious thinking and Pinterest pinning for the guest book. I found the “share your keys to success” on Pinterest and from there I wanted my guests to write on little tags. I stamped the back of the tags with skeleton keys, to prevent guests from writing on both sides. I’m going to put all of the tags into a scrapbook. (project details to come) The wood tool box kept everything together and organized.

The only project I know I wanted to do from the get go was a marquee “COOKIES” sign. The fiancé and I have never been big cake fans so I thought cookies would be a nice change of pace.

Continuing with the marquee signs, I ended up having a whole extra week before the wedding (thanks to Hurricane Harvey, my fiancé was stuck in Houston and I took the last flight out before it hit, not thankful at the time but it all worked out. We don’t need to go into detail) So, I had some time for more Projects! Here comes the “BEER” sign for the Beer Garden. It turned out better than I expected.

The day turned out amazing and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I am so blessed to have the love and support of all of our family and friends. I couldn’t have imaged a better day to celebrate marrying my best friend.
